Get ready for the girls

Your face says it all. So give the ladies a real treat by following a good grooming ritual before a big night out. Follow advice from the experts and you’ll be guaranteed to stand out from fellow prowlers.

  • The curse of dandruff. If you’ve got it – do what you can to eliminate it especially if you’re wearing darker coloured clothes. Invest in a good anti-dandruff shampoo recommended by your chemist.
  • 80’s might be making a comeback, but the monobrow look has never really been in and you’ll look great if you pluck out those stray hairs with a set of tweezers. Better still, get a pro to do it for you at a salon.
  • If you’ve had some heavy nights watch out for bigger pores and the odd unsightly black head that may even give off a nasty smell. Be prepared and invest in an exfoliating face wash to scrub away the damage of the night before.
  • Get ready for a good shave. Whatever you do, don’t use a blunt razor or you’ll be covered in a not very appealing rash. Invest in a good razor and follow our step by step shaving guide.
  • Ok – so our ears and nose may never stop growing, but that’s no excuse for letting the hair that pops out of both areas go crazy. Invest in a nasal hair trimmer and don’t let those stragglers get out of control.
  • Moisturise your face. Be careful to use a product without alcohol to stop avoid any stinging. It’ll help get rid of little dry patches and reveal a refreshed look to help you stand out from the crowd.
  • And while you’re looking after the skin on your face, take a look at your hands too. Even Daniel Craig won’t pull if his finger nails are long and dirty. So keep them clean and short and check out our accessories range to help.
  • Sharpen your style. Make sure your shoes are polished and you’ve used all your best accessories – nice belt, favourite watch, good wallet. The details of how you look will speak volumes about you.

The 10 step ultimate shaving guide

With over 3000 hours of a British guys life spent shaving, its tragic to know there’s still loads of us covering up the odd nick or cut with tissue. So make shaving an art form with our guide.

  • Step 1: Let your skin wake up. Don’t shave first thing in the morning, have a cup of tea first to let the puffiness caused by fluid collection overnight fade away.
  • Step 2: Exfoliate before you shave to get rid of dead skin and help prepare the pores for your shave.
  • Step 3: Wet your stubble with warm or hot water before shaving. It opens the hair shaft to the blades cut your hair not your skin.
  • Step 4: Thoroughly massage shaving cream into stubble before your shave. It not only helps soften the hair but helps protect against nasty razor rashes and burns.
  • Step 5: Make sure your blades are sharp. Dull blades are the culprit for most shaving accidents. A new blade will stop any dragging of the razor over your face.
  • Step 6: Use gentle pressure against your beard and shave with the grain of the hair.
  • Step 7: Shave the most sensitive area of your face first – the neck and below the jawbone – then move up the face.
  • Step 8: Rinse the blade in hot water when shaving and use slow short strokes. It’ll stop any drag that the razor may make to your skin.
  • Step 9: Apply oil free moisturiser to soothe, protect and invigorate your skin. If you’re using after-shave check the label for alcohol and be warned that this is the ingredient that makes your skin sting.
  • Step 10: Be careful of mentholated shaving products. They may give you a nice ‘cool’ sensation at first, but menthol, like alcohol, can be irritating to the skin.
